Einstein said, in 1936, “The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.” He probably should have added, “except for quantum mechanics.” Nevertheless, I think this is a profound, and profoundly democratic, assertion. Every executive editor should have it taped to his or her computer.
